Stitching Supply Brings Fun New Community Event to Memphis
Knitters, crocheters, needlepoint enthusiasts, and all other stitchers unite! Stitching Supply, Memphis’ premier destination for all things fiber arts, is thrilled to announce its inaugural celebration of Worldwide Knit in Public Day at Chickasaw Oaks. The event, set to take place on June 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., invites the community to gather, stitch, and connect in a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere.
Worldwide Knit in Public Day (WWKIP Day) is the largest global event dedicated to bringing fiber artists together in a social and engaging way. Established in 2005, the celebration aims to take knitting out of private spaces and into the public eye—fostering connection, sparking creativity, and breaking down stereotypes about who knitters are and what they create.
“We want to encourage people to knit in public more often,” says Erica Carpenter, owner of Stitching Supply. “Every time someone pulls out their project in a public space, it sparks conversations and connections—especially with others who knit or crochet. It’s a natural community builder. There’s also something special about keeping your hands busy while allowing your mind to rest, and we’re excited to lean into a festival atmosphere to celebrate that.”
This full-day celebration will transform Chickasaw Oaks Mall into a vibrant hub of creativity, with special appearances, interactive experiences, and exclusive collaborations. Guests will enjoy raffles, giveaways, and yarn-themed games with fun prizes throughout the event. Stitching Supply will also debut a fresh lineup of special merchandise, including exclusive yarns from three outstanding independent dyers. Among them is Forbidden Fiber from Covington, TN, known for their stunning palettes and inventive fiber bases. These trunk shows offer a rare chance to meet artists, see collections up close, and snag unique skeins that aren’t available anywhere else.
Attendees can also cool off with free popsicles from MemPops, available in limited supply, and explore the event’s collaborative vibe as other Chickasaw Oaks businesses join the fun. Stitching Supply’s talented instructors will be offering live demonstrations, providing a hands-on introduction to new skills and techniques. A highlight of the event will be the introduction of limited-edition Stitching Supply patches, designed to celebrate participation in the stitching community on the day and at future events.
